I’ve started to incorporate current events into the morning homeschool routine. I feel it is important to show my 8th grader how to look up news – from different sources, to fact check, and to make sure we’re not just skimming headlines and spreading misinformation.
As Lithuanians, we are deeply sadden to see the news of the invasion of Ukraine. I grew up in the 80’s and remember how happy my father was when Lithuania declared independence from the former USSR. We are currently reading The Story of the World, Modern Age. Uncanny timing that we just read about Russa’s invasion of India in the late 1800’s while they are invading Ukraine today.
As we read today’s news of war we are also learning about the country of Ukraine. Sometimes we’re incapable of helping, but taking time to learn is a step towards compassion.
I’ve created a Ukraine Country Pack to help kick off some of the interesting bits of information we should know about this country.
This pack is free to download and part of the Country Packs I have been creating for a homeschool Geography Folder.
