I love short stories! Creative writing is my second favorite subject, right behind History. But writing an actual book is terrifying. I like to get to the point quick, so I love short stories. I believe short stories are also very valuable to hesitant, slow, and unhappy writers. How can a child be an unhappy writer?! My guess, they have to write too much. Switch gears and offer a short story template.
My boys hate language arts. So I’ve had to get creative. Settling on short stories has been amazing! They have written about dogs on other planets. Evil cats. Traitorous knights. Every time they get started … they want to write more. Write tomorrow. And the next day! By Chapter Five I need to ask if they’re going to wrap it up soon so we can get to math. Of course not – keep writing! We’ll do math after lunch.
Short Story Pages
This pack of Short Story Pages has a few cute elements on each page. Great for DOODLES when the writing flow stalls. Not too much to get distracted, but enough to keep the creative juices flowing! Especially for tactile learners. Doodling helps them think.
Each Short Story has been given 3 pages. If a student wants to write more – there is a blank page at the end with lines. I’ve also included 2 “brainstorming” Short Story Idea pages to help new writers jot down ideas and stick to topic.
