Paper Easter Egg Hunt & Egg Coloring Page

I can’t count the number of Easter Egg-Stravaganzas we’ve gotten up so early and dragged our boys to pick up eggs in a field. Downtown Easter parades and egg hunts. It’s hard to believe our world can not get together for these fun community events because of COVID-19.

In effort to respect social distancing, yet offer something fun and creative for the kids in my neighborhood, I invited them to a Paper Easter Egg Hunt.

What on earth is a Paper Easter Egg Hunt ??

Great question. I wasn’t aware of one … ever, until I saw another neighborhood far away from ours doing it. So I figured – what’s good for one neighborhood surely is good for another!

I have to be honest. I never glorified the Easter Bunny. Or Santa. Or the Tooth Fairy. I don’t even know if she’s “the” tooth fairy or just Tooth Fairy. My boys knew I was the one behind all the fun. We did give them baskets, but nothing over-the-top. A favorite candy and a book. Why pay for all that candy and then fillings?

We always colored eggs and hunted them ourselves, but I’ve seen store shelves lately. It’s hit or miss what’s available. I’d hate for someone to go thinking they can easily grab another dozen when they find themselves looking at empty shelves. It’s happened to us with bread and pasta already. I don’t take shopping for granted anymore!

The Paper Easter Egg Hunt is pretty simple. Color and decorate Easter Eggs then tape those paper decorations to your home windows. Preferably ones people will see from the street. The neighborhood I first saw this at is planning on “driving by” for the egg hunt. I live on a pretty popular walking trail – so I’ll be putting some by the front door and a lot of eggs in the back windows facing the trail.

I did give the hunt a few days – social distancing and all. But I have to say – I’m loving these paper eggs over the horrible vinegar dye smell and crazy long clean up egg drowning takes. Just for all the eggs to always come out looking the exact boring same. Paper Easter Eggs are far more colorful and fun.

Create your own Paper Easter Eggs for a neighborhood hunt or just around the house decorations. Surprise your children and leave “eggs” around the house or decorate their bedroom doors. Looking for something a bit easier? Print my little Easter eggs coloring page and color your own Paper Easter Eggs!
