We had the insane & completely ridiculous opportunity to spend 6 weeks in Costa Rica this summer. So I thought I’d share some of the fun as we continue to unpack, acclimate back to a faster pace of life, and get ready for the new school year.
Why Costa Rica?
Hubs is renovating a golf course in Papagayo Costa Rica. So it was either be with him on sight or be without him for 6 weeks in Colorado. Since we were not participating in any camps this year – usually Henry does a little theater something here and there – we decided to live together as a family in Costa Rica.
No. I do not speak Spanish “well enough” to get around. I thought I could wing it on my 3 years of high school Spanish. That is 25 (plus) years old. I was wrong. So so so wrong. At the butcher I was trying to explain I didn’t have a grill, only an oven and asked, “How would you cook me?” Awesome.
Absolute Highlight
I have always wanted to go on a zipline canopy tour over the jungle. Hubs found one better than I could have imagined going straight through a canyon over top of a river. It was absolutely the best adventure of my life.
Even the parts when I became petrified because we had to climb a rock – vertically – using slippery lopsided brackets they called “the ladder”. Which wasn’t a “ladder” just rusty bolts in the rock. I was absolutely terrified, shaking, almost crying – but I put one hand in front of the other and went inch by slow painful inch. Never looking down just climbing up to the sound of my teen clapping me on as encouragement. It’s in those – I might die – moments when my boys show up big and show me their character. I felt so loved.
Costa Rica is absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to put together a few Nature Study posts and share what we learned! Three words: Blue Morpho Butterfly. Soon. I just need to get ourselves settled so I can start posting again.
