It has been a very light school week as we had a few meet ups – including a field trip to watch The Nutcracker! So we made up for it with new drawing books on clearance from Hobby Lobby and lots of ‘quality time dates’.
I was very excited to see the Orlando Ballet preform an ‘abridged’ version of The Nutcracker for schools. We were a small group of Homeschoolers among many public school students packed into the Convention Center Theater. I made sure my boys wore something nice to go get themselves cultured!
Of course they smiled and remained well mannered, but as soon as they got in the car they shared their feelings.
“They just danced … the whole time.”
“It made me feel sleepy.”
“I’m not going to make my kids go see it.”
“The whole thing was just a dream. I don’t have to do Math since it was a field trip. Right?”
At least it only cost $15 for the 3 of us.
Then my oldest went and grew up on me. This week he went to his first semi formal Winter dance for his private/HomeSchool.
It’s great he has the opportunity to participate in high school events and yet we can still travel and HomeSchool. He went with two friends and met up with his soccer and tennis team buddies.
The week before the dance we made him learn how to tie his own tie. {life skills}?And now he Has become a double Windsor knot snob.
I think we’ve made this maturity turn from raggedy hero T-shirts to actual nice clothing. He is seeing a difference. And so it begins! So this might be your handsome son is growing up Wrap-Up!

My kids have performed in the Nutcracker as dancers for the last 8 years and it isn’t my favorite story. Of course, I love it more because they are in it ~ lol. I get your kids feelings, but it is great that you are giving them a variety of experiences.
Blessings, Dawn

How fun to have performers in the play! It is a beautiful story. They did like the Russian dancers at least. 😉
