If you’re a ‘boy mom’ like me then you might desire is to raise honorable, courageous, and compassionate boys. Yet it is a challenge especially even more so now in a time that rewards laziness and self promotion.
I was thrilled to hear my blogger friend, Heather Haupt, wrote Knights In Training to equip parents for the adventure in chivalry training.
I am a major history geek, so naturally I cultivate toward knights and Medieval History. But I believe there is something in all of us who admire the Knights Code of Chivalry. We admire their self discipline. We long for dignity and bravery. Why else would Hollywood keep making historical movies?
So, who says we can not use these tried and true beliefs as a parenting road map for our own adventurous boys today?!
Knight in Training takes us through 10 Codes of Chivalry and offers parents a modern day practical application.
What I really like: this book stresses it’s great to be a boy. Embrace boyhood!  Do we really have to walk a gender neutral tightrope when we have strong boys who crave adventure? No. Let boys be boys. And with guiding intentional care, parents can raise men to accept responsibility, show kindness, love God, respect women, and contribute to something bigger in their life time! Which is far more important than just raising a “good kid” or just surviving parenthood.
I appreciate both my nine and fourteenth year old boys will benefit from this book. {especially for my teen who is easily seeing laziness and technology are kings of the kingdom ~ we can grasping so much from the chapter on Pursuing Excellence}
My husband’s coworkers came over for Memorial Day cookout. It was an enjoyable evening for the adults. My boys left the conversation early and spent most of the afternoon quietly playing together in a bedroom. When the gentlemen were getting ready to leave our youngest entered the room to say goodbye. I was pleased he took the initative. Then to my surprise he raised his little hand to shake their hands, like a real man. My heart burst, I was so proud.
Boys are never too young to be polite, respect authority, and be kind. I think we can expect more from our boys – your boys – they are capable of so much more. They just need the guidance and example!
Knights In Training is not today’s popular “you’re doing ok mom, go eat a donut in the bathtub” viral video. It’s a call to action to be intentional with your time parenting!
This is an adventure worth taking. This book is an easy read packed with encouragement and real activities to try. I highly recommend this book for all my boy mom friends.
I received an advanced copy of Knights In Training for the book launch. All words are munch own honest opinions. This post contains affiliate links.Â
