For the first time ever we are now Disney Passholders!
We have lived in Orlando for 12 years, so this is kind of a big deal. One year we had passes to the Disney Water Parks, but not the real thing Disney Parks. The water parks were a great time and we really enjoyed cooling off in the Florida afternoons.
99% of our friends have been a Disney Passholder at some point. We never got to meet up with them. Over the years we’ve enjoyed Sea World Passes (when we learned about Swimming Creatures) and a few years of Universal Passes, because we’re huge Harry Potter fans! But this year we are now proud Disney Passholders!
A few years ago Hubs redesigned a golf course at Disney, so they were very kind to give our family a 1 day Park Pass. The four of us ran thru all 4 parks in just 1 day! It can be done, but I do not recommend it.
It was exhausting and everyone was a sad sore puddle of tired the next day. I’m glad we’re not doing that again!
Disney offers many different park passes, so we chose the Florida Residents Weekday Passes. This means we can go to any of the four parks (Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios) any day / time of the week ~ with a few blackout dates.
I’m happy my youngest and I will be able to make small weekly visits since we live just 18 minutes from the parking lots. Now that our oldest is in public school – weekday visits for the two of us fit into the schedule easily.
This is going to be an amazing opportunity to incorporate homeschool lessons with hands-on visual reinforcement. Specifically at Animal Kingdom and Epcot.
Homeschooling at Disney
This year we are loving World Geography and Epcot is an excellent place to see more of the things we are reading about. For instance, learning about totem poles in the Pacific Northwest was neat. Coloring your own out of a toilet paper tube super cute. But standing next to a huge totem pole in Canada at Epcot … wow! It was super cool.
My youngest son does not like roller coasters and neither do I. So we’re looking forward to the slower boat rides and scavenger hunt opportunities that Epcot is known for.
It’s also a huge bonus that one of his older favorite shows, Phineas and Ferb, offers seven online scavenger hunts throughout the Epcot World Showcase. We already had a blast in Mexico! As you follow directions on your phone little objects within the pavilions come to life. Statues, paintings, and little relics move, dance, start playing music, and give you more clues as you work your way through the scavenger hunt. We were amazed.
Side note, I adore Professor Doofenshmirtz back stories!
We’ve heard the inside of Mexico has been redesigned for the movie Coco with the Remember Me theme. We just saw that this summer! Mexico was beautiful and a nice dark break from the hot bright summer sun! I recommend the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros (slow boat ride), and not just because I love Donald Duck! The village, fireworks, huge sculptures Aztec Pyramid, and music is fun.
I’m looking forward to sharing more countries while we’re Homeschooling at Disney in our upcoming Geography field trips!!
