Need help teaching Parts of Speech?
It can get a little burdensome when you might not dig grammar as much as the next mom. Especially when your children might not like grammar, at all. That’s the case for my boys. Math and Grammar duel it out every day as to see which will be the worst subject of the day. Math usually wins, but Grammar doesn’t give up easily.
In effort to help my 3rd graders make the 8 Parts of Speech exciting I’ve created posters, sang songs, and danced around the room actually ‘acting out’ verbs. The boys think it’s hilarious, but never ask them what an adverb does. We’ve even rewarded children with money when they’ve used more colorful synonyms! Each boy has a Thesaurus purchased for them with love. Yet it sits on the shelf collecting dust.
Language Arts Pack to help parents Teaching Parts of Speech !
I’ve created this free pack to help parents better explain the 8 parts of speech. Students will write words for each part of speech, make a grammar poster (watch our video), and write a short story. Because I think short stories are awesome. I’ve provided numerous short story templates here.
This pack has a “bonus page” full of interesting words to incorporate in short stories or just fun to drop during dinner. Ring a bell, clap your hands, give a standing ovation, or knock on the table with your knuckles. Whenever your student chooses to use a bigger more colorful word – make it known you’ve noticed! Especially when it comes to “nice” and “said” – those words are considered BORING in our home! Encourage your children to broaden their vocabulary.
