We just got back from our Fall Family Trip to Bryson City, NC. It was beautiful and we had an awesome time hiking!
I highly suggest checking out the Road to NoWhere. The tunnel is definitely a crazy experience. It is a sensory overload and I felt older than dirt. Even when you’re 1/2 way through the tunnel it still feels like an eternity away. It’s a bizarre experience you just have to do! Hubs decided we would hike around, “the “bypass”, instead of walking back through to the parking lot. I’m so glad because it was beautiful with fall colors and no one was on the trail. It’s about 1.6 miles.
We really enjoyed the Noctober Fest activites at the Nantahala Outdoor Center – they do such a fun job incorporating kids and adults! We hiked about 30 minutes up the AT just because you have to hike the AT when you’re there!
I turned around early with Henry while Hubs kept going another 30 minutes with our oldest.
I was just as happy to eat our picnic packed lunch and watch people kayak by us. We especially loved my (free) first time face painting experience. Face painting is never free in Orlando, so this was a big treat. I’d say it was a success!
The kayak Pumpkin Snatch event (probably named something smarter but I can’t remember) was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Kayaks all came racing toward us at the “beach”. Try to image these thin kayaks full of mini pumpkins. Whatever a kayak paddlelr is called – they were buried under mini pumpkins. I was giggling like a little girl.
I’m not sure which kayaker gave my son a pumpkin, but that just made me fall in love with the area! Such nice people. Our number didn’t get picked but boy did we have a blast waiting by the fire!
