In the Layton home we believe research is a big part of character building! We never spoon-fed our boys the answers to fill in the blank questions. I created these Europe Country Sheets, Mini Packs, giving the boys the opportunity to research, discover, learn, and share.
You know those questions you get while driving home from soccer practice, do horses sleep standing up? Why is it called “shotgun” when we run to the car? Where did “waiting for the other shoe to drop” come from? Does Sagittarius and sagittal plane have the same root word meaning? What is the word origin for Worry?
“Great question, look it up !!” has been a response the boys have heard time and time again. Asking great questions, thinking outside of the box, problem solving, and sharing what we learn are becoming rare skills. And I definitely don’t want to discourage asking questions. Also don’t want my boys thinking I am a know-it-all and have all the answers. Let’s discover together!
Don’t miss out on the “presentation” part these Country Sheets offer. We learn more by teaching others and practicing public speaking skills is a bonus in this world of LOL’s and BRB’s.
Europe – Country Info Sheets
These Europe Country Info Sheets are mini packs. They offer the opportunity for students to research the answers. I’ve picked the country, provided the landscape, flag, and questions. Students can use an Atlas, Google, or anything else they need to find the most recent information and learn more about each country. When your students get to high school “find 3 sources” will become the norm! Why not start research skills now?!
Each country pack offers 3 pages. Print what you want, fill in the info, 3-hole punch – happy Geography lesson! The last page of these packs offers an opportunity to sketch the country. Both my boys (one an artist the other not-so-much) benefited greatly from sketching countries with Chalk Pastel Art. Who knew Estonia had so many islands?! We realized that sketching helped the boys to easily locate the country on a map. Because Austria seems to be lounging on a couch, according to my children.
Why Europe ?
We have taken our boys on many amazing trips to Italy, Thailand, Costa Rica, etc. However, when we combine our history lessons, (even though it’s current country information) it’s nice to add to the lesson. When we study Ancient Greece Mythology, we can chat current Greece info.
In NO particular order, besides the time they were created … Click on the country name below and print your mini country pack!
