Escape Room Ideas at Home

My teen is a huge reality tv fan. He absolutely loves Amazing Race and Survivor tv shows. We watch Survivor a bit differently though since we’re not fans of drama, crying, and complaining. We fast forward to reward challenges and then fast forward to the immunity challenges. Then we fast forward to tribal counsel. This way the voting is also a complete surprise for us. We truly enjoy the blind sides. I also enjoy the lack of drama and bold face lying. We eventually started watching Survivor Australia because it is even more challenging physically than the US version. My son’s dream is to be on survivor one day.

You can imagine this means he loves Escape Rooms.

His first Escape Room was at Clue Room of Colorado with his brother and father celebrating his brother’s graduation. They didn’t make it out in time. The second Escape Room – same place different room – I took him and his closest BFFs for his 14th birthday. We made it out with 2 minutes to spare!

But Escape Rooms aren’t cheap, and you only get one birthday party every year. Thankfully I found a few Escape Room Board Games on Amazon and printable versions on Etsy.

The board games can only be used once, and we did not solve the mystery of the exploding mansion. However we saved the town! Since the game is not reusable, we passed it on to a friend.

The Etsy printables are half the price of some board games which is nice. But you might make up for it in printer paper and ink. Especially the holiday themed ones.

Why Try Escape Rooms?

What’s so great about Escape Rooms? Physical brick and motor location, board game, or printable escape rooms can: help develop fine motor skills. Improve communication. Improve mood. Improve memory. Enhance team work.

The home versions are fun to hand off to the kids and finish folding laundry, because I printed them I already know the answers. But I never really get to the laundry room because someone always needs help with a clue. Or two. Or twenty.
