I am very excited to share with you our most recent trip to Crayola Experience in Orlando and our new partnership with them!
We had another funtastic time at Crayola Experience! It’s been three years since we’ve been “colorful”, so it was nice to see our favorite hands-on activities were still there as well as some fun new ones.
Crayola Experience offers 26 interactive activity stations. If you’re dancing, scavenger hunting, melting, spinning, or creating new crayons – you will find yourself very entertained. It took us about 2 hours to walk through the building, however we went on a very slow week day. We had absolutely no wait time to try everything. We’ve been told the weekends are packed, so plan extra time if you’re heading on a Saturday.
Upon arrival you will receive tokens which are good for the Custom Crayons section or Molding Clay. You can pick any color you want and name a crayon after a friend, family member, or yourself. Really makes a fun birthday present or Christmas gift. The modeling clay is a “single serving”, I suggest keeping for a raining day.
Henry’s favorite activities were: Custom Crayons, Rock Out Paper Creation, and Spin Art. We also enjoyed the melted take home souvenirs and silly photograph coloring pages. Unfortunately, we had a little problem catching on to the rules of the Adventure Lab – the virtual and physical problem solving activity room. This is a new immersive station. Although the staff gave us directions we were not understanding when to use the tablet and when to use our own hands. The challenges do not go in order so out of 15 we were given 4, 7, and 13. You have 3 tasks to solve and by the end of the 3rd we were starting to get the hang of it. I think.
Be sure to video your kaleidoscope “Work of Art”. Even though it requires an email to start, we never received ours. I’m so happy I videoed my boy dancing around for a few seconds. He really enjoyed it.
Maybe it’s being 11, but he was not impressed with the Wax Rain this visit. We did not stay but a few seconds before moving on to the Melted Crayon Masterpiece. Again, this one was a pass. The melted crayon does not come out in fine thin lines so our masterpieces just looked like blobs. We had far more fun Spinning Art with melted wax. Those pinwheels are hanging up in my homeschool room. They are really pretty when you pick complimentary colors.
Also being 11, we did not hang out in the playground area. I can say that the little ones who were there were having a fun time.
We did not try out the extra areas that require cash. There is mining for gems, games, and food. So if you plan on being there for awhile, plan on bringing some extra cash.
By far the most entertaining was the Rock Out paper dancing area near the birthday rooms. We colored a simple butterfly and then watched it dance to some fun quick music. The thing hopped, jumped, and boogied it’s way across the stage. It was super cute and we couldn’t help but clap and cheer.
The exit leads you straight into the Crayola Store. There are great souvenirs you can purchase. From t-shirts, coloring supplies, to boxes of unique crayon colors I’ve never seen before. We picked up a box of Metallic Markers and some Grape Slime Body Soap for the tub. Mostly because I absolutely love the smell of it!
FlaHomeschooling Tips:
1. Keep the green bag they give you at tickets. You will definitely fill the thing up with crayons, clay, coloring pages, and many many works of art!
2. Plan for 3-4 hours onsite.
3. Bring cash. Games, food, store, and some other things do not take tokens.
4. Spend a little cash on more tokens. Each ticket receives 2 tokens. So load up on custom crayons or modeling clay.
5. Parking is FREE – don’t park and walk through the entire mall, park right outside the building.
6. Some activities require coloring the pages first – be ready to help out little ones.
7. Bring hand wipes or hand sanitizer, it’s all hands-on !
8. Keep an eye on show times – we only saw 1 marquee right at the entrance, top of the stairs.
9. Don’t get disappointed if the melted souvenirs have mixed colors, we’ve only had 1 come out completely 1 color.
10. Grab extra coloring sheets to take home for a rainy day.
