This week started off differently with a rush of family activity before Hubs had to leave for work in California. We enjoyed jammed packed days of Golf & hiking Rainbow Lake Trail to see the beavers!
Once Mr. Layton caught a plane out of Denver we were without a car & on our own for a few days. Thankfully we’re staying right off downtown and the bike paths lead to the grocery store! We enjoyed a slightly slower pace.
I think eating home cooked meals outside has been my favorite. In Orlando you might get a nice week before the mosquitoes find you & drain you dry OR the heat just ruins your appetite. Eating out in Frisco is a bit more expensive than Orlando and the food just doesn’t blow me away here. We love the Butterhorn Bakery (its delish)! It’s been nice cooking our own meals & eating on the front porch under the mountains.
Except for Taco Tuesday at Rio Grande. You can’t beat $2 tacos and free chips & salsa.
The Biking
I am super proud of myself! When Hubs returned to town we took a bike ride from Frisco to Dillon. It’s a 6 mile ride one way. And it’s anything but flat and straight! You wind your bike around Lake Dillon & hit some pretty steep hills. Steep hills for this couch rider, m’kay?!
Let me tell you … 1. I’m no biker. We had to buy me padded shorts because I bruised my soft lazy butt the week before. Sure I own a bike. I bought a Trek Mountain Bike 18 years ago when I was trying to impress my future husband. I thought biking together would be cool & I’d show him I was tough. Until I realized mountain bikers JUMP over logs. This poor fool had to walk-of-shame her bike back down the trail because I couldn’t lift nor jump my new hot rod around the woods.
2. I have no front brakes. As in they’re not even on the bike. They Houdinied their way off my bike behind my back!
3. My back brakes are worn. They’re the same brakes I bought with the bike now hanging on by a thread.
4. I have TWO gears. Back home I gave my ancient chariot to my teen to ride to work. He destroyed all the gears and graciously left me with two. Up hill & down hill.
So again … I’m SUPER proud of myself for riding to Dillon. I’m also proud my youngest entered the town’s bike decorating contest & rode in the 4th of July Parade. I’m proud my oldest applied for a job at the bike shop and has been working most days. (he figured a way out of all this hiking). Maybe his 40% employee discount will go towards brakes for his dear sweet momma.
While one son worked I took the other back to the Museum this week for the historical model railroad display scavenger hunt.
The whole set up is impressive and it was tons of fun. The downtown area has done an excellent job preserving its mining history and incorporating interactive activities for visitors! This has been great for my oldest who will start high school American History soon.
4 WEEKS LEFT
We have 4 weeks left in town. Saying that out loud is absolutely craziness to my ears. Our longest vacation was 16 days in Italy, but we were hopping from town to town. Same with our trip to Thailand. I’m not complaining! Just amused we really did this.
