The excitement actually started the day before CC. Sunday we celebrated my 43rd birthday together since one boy was going to be in public school, the other in CC & Hubs in Saudi Arabia.
Yup. A golf architecture conference in the Middle East took Hubs away for the week & we did the birthday stuff without him. Of course – we didn’t let it slow us down!!
We headed to Castle Rock (20 minutes south) to an Epic ropes course to spend 3 hours terrified, hooking on & off and climbing around the place. IT WAS AWESOME !!
After climbing we headed to Mexican & I enjoyed chicken enchiladas. My favorite! I’m pretty picky about them & the ones we had were pretty good. After we headed home to watch the Super Bowl.
MONDAY was a bit stressful for my tender hearted guy since Hubs hadn’t been around to buy birthday cards. He was quick to high-jack my letter board! Super sweet.
Class time felt quick since we decided not to stay at CC for lunch but rather crossed the street for a sushi birthday date. My actual birthday. We ‘had to’ do something ‘on’ my birthday he informed me.
The history sentence about WW1 lead us to the library to checkout books & start on a presentation. I cant believe how much interest the kid is showing about this! He keeps asking me, did you know … and reads facts. I’m learning about the war too! We decided to make an Excel Spreadsheet of all the vocabulary words he is learning. Conveniently, the library is around the street from the Bundt Shoppe.
Not sure if I can pick a favorite out of the group of minis we purchased. Sure the chocolate is amazing but the banana bread & lemon were crazy good! We needed something to eat after the Happy Birthday song.
Unfortunately, my birthday ended and so did good attitudes. We struggled to get homeschool done – the core subjects – the rest of the week. All Henry wanted to do was his 3 minute Classical Conversations presentation. We had a few NO ELECTRONIC GAMES afternoons because of it.
The snow storm Thursday was insane and that lead to a public school snow day Friday. We shoveled the driveway & sidewalks 3x that day. I knew if we waited until it stopped we wouldn’t be able to lift the shovels.
I shoveled off the back deck into one pile and we made a fun ‘snow ramp’ off the lower deck level in to the yard. We ditched the books and all the arguing to do Language Arts, and I was happy for the break!!
Hubs arrived home 45 minutes early and we enjoyed the evening sitting together hearing about the Saudi culture, strict rules, and lifestyle. Since I do not sleep well while he travels – we slept in late Sunday, (watched Francis Chan instead of going to church), took a 2hr nap, and still went to bed at 10pm. I was definitely exhausted.
