The school semester ended with all of the extras wrapping up at the same time. This semester Henry started in Descendants, as Carlos. He absolutely loves musical theater. He earned his Beginner Green Belt at Taekwondo. Those two activities had us running around 6-8pm every night of the week. Unlike him, I do not mind the winter break!
Classical Conversations Challenge B
I am incredibly happy we are back with Classical Conversations. Thankfully, I’m not the only one! Most importantly, my 8th grader is thrilled to be back. He is really enjoying Logic and LTW this time around.
For the end of the semester the entire community, K-12, celebrated with an ice-skating party – which is new for us being from Florida. But that didn’t stop my boy from trying. I think he’ll try anything once! The kids in his class were flying around the place, but kind enough to stop and give him pointers every other lap. It’s pleasant being around kind teens again!
Later that week after Blue Books (mid-terms), Challenge Classes enjoyed a Secret Santa party where my blanket loving boy scored a fleece Christmas blanket and cookies. Who wouldn’t be happy to be back? As far as how he is transitioning back to a fuller schedule, he loves the research, the presentations, and the discussion in class. Things that were greatly missing from his public school classes. He puts so much effort into preparing and doing a good job, he is always proud of his work! Unfortunately, he is no longer interested in Engineering. This whole experience we thought the STEM School would grow that interest and provide the help we needed. The skills I could not provide at home – not kill the interest all together.
It was impossible for me to continue working at the book store while Henry is back home, so I came home full time too! Home again home again jiggity jig. You might wonder, what’s it like being “back home” after public school (charter school). Some of us might have picked up a few potty words that aren’t really going over well in the house. There is a huge phone attachment that is hard to break. For both of us, really. However, we’re not rushing here, there, and everywhere with limited time. I feel far less anxious and stressed to get from point A to point B. We have the time now. The house has been cleaner too. We have gone on a few hikes together, just because we can. We do not have to worry about getting a person’s pronouns correct, which is something I had to learn as well going back into the workforce. Let’s just say, we’re both very happy to be home, again!
I’m looking forward to next semester as well as planning for high school credits! It’s time for the BIG SHOW! We plan to stay with CC for Challenge 1. As much as I have commented on the fact that there are a few holes, it is far better (far far far better) than what we experienced in public school. We will do what every homeschooler before me has done – get creative to fill in the gaps at home.
We are staying home for Christmas since my oldest will be on leave from the Marines. I thought last year was our last Christmas together, yet I’m being blessed with another. To occupy some time and keep Fortnight to a minimum, we are enjoying Chalk Pastel’s Christmas art!
Hoping to relax, recharge, and enjoy the slower pace with my people!
